Description
Introduction In the last decade, considerable attention has been paid to the interaction between labor unionization and international trade. Grossman (1984) analyzes the effects of import competition on a domestic union that maximizes the welfare of the median voter. With a monopoly union model, Rissman (1988) investigates the effects of import penetration under a unionized labor market. Brecher and Long (1989) develop a general equilibrium model with a national trade union to inquire about the impact of protection on social welfare. In a Nash-Cournot duopoly market, Brander and Spencer (1988) and Mezzetti and Dinopoulos (1991) examine the consequences of unionization for international trade and the effects on a home country's employment, output, and welfare.
